Success, dedication and 30,000 dollars: here’s what you need to do to have a star with your name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles with your name is possible. Sure, you have to make some sacrifices and be willing to get involved, first of all by submitting an official request, but it’s not impossible.
Yes, because to see your name on the most famous street in Hollywood it’s not enough to have a brilliant career behind you, but you also need to fill out a written application to demonstrate how serious your intentions are. The second step? Have a large budget for self-promotion.
If the idea appeals to you, we’ll explain how it works.
How to claim a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
How to request a star on the Walk of Fame
In a completely theoretical line, anyone can apply for a star on the Walk of Fame: just send the application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and wait for the outcome. As expected, however, the subscriptions examined are only those of people who have achieved something great. “It’s a tourist attraction. We want tourists to come to Hollywood to see the stars of their favorite stars,” explains the spokeswoman for the examining commission, Ana Martinez.
All requests must have a statement of intent attached, explaining why you want the star and promising to attend the ceremony where the new star on the Walk of Fame will be unveiled and presented.
In fact, not all Hollywood stars are interested. Giants like Julia Roberts and Dustin Hoffman have never applied. That’s why their name doesn’t appear.
All requests must be accompanied by a sponsorship fee of 30,000 dollars. Half of these go to the Hollywood Historic Trust, which maintains the Walk of Fame.
The rest of the sum is used to create the star itself, remove the normal flooring and insert the recognition, create the replica to be framed and give to the star as a keepsake to take home, hire photographers, security and everything related to the ceremony.
Who decides whether to grant it
Every June, a select group of Hollywood bigwigs evaluate applications, which also include biographies compiled by their managers. This is where everyone’s resumes are evaluated, in terms of awards won, records broken, box office sales, philanthropic activities, and anything else that might astound the panel.
The latter is generally made up of six members representing all categories of entertainment (cinema, television, music). Applications remain valid for about two years, but can be resubmitted several times.
Where are the new stars placed?
The most coveted location is known to be across from the Roosevelt Hotel, right where Mery Streep’s star is. Another rather prestigious point is the walk towards the Hollywood and Highland Shopping Center. Here are the honors of Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman and Susan Sarandon.
Unfortunately for the next candidates these streets are now full and therefore we will have to settle for neighboring and less prestigious sections of the street.
The positioning, in some cases, depends on a precise choice of the winner, as happened with Muhammed Ali, who preferred that his star be placed on the wall of the shopping center to prevent people from trampling on it.
