Kendall Jenner has been in the spotlight from a very young age. She is one of the most famous models in the world and because she has always been the protagonist of reality shows with her family. In an interview Kendall Jenner has revealed, for the first time ever, that she doesn’t identify as a Kardashian.
The supermodel, 27, discussed her family dynamics in a new interview with The Wall Street Journal , where she revealed she’s always “felt out of place” within the Kardashian/Jenner clan.
Although she became famous as a young girl thanks to her connection with Kim Kardashian & Co., Kendall Jenner said she doesn’t feel very attached to the name Kardashian, but rather prefers to be “a Jenner”.
Obviously I understand that I fall under the definition of the Kardashian sisters, said the model, adding however that it’s strange for me because I’m just like my father in so many ways. I really feel very Jenner and not Kardashian at all.
Kendall Jenner says: “I felt out of place in my family”
During the interview, the model went on to tell that she never really felt happy with the association with the Kardashian name and the fame that came with it.
“Since I was very young, I felt out of place in my family . I was born into this life, but I didn’t choose it. And I don’t even feel good at it,” admitted Kendall, explaining that being in the public eye since she was a teenager has always been difficult for her. To further explain her point, Kendall said that while she thinks some of her sisters, Kim Kardashian in particular, were “built” for a life in the spotlight, that’s not the case at all.
Kendall Jenner has spoken repeatedly about her discomfort with fame in the past. In particular, she has been very vocal about the negative effects her intense media attention has had on her mental health , recounting that she has struggled with anxiety and has had “crazy panic attacks” that they left unable to breathe.
“Sometimes I think I’m going to die. There are times when I feel like I need to be hospitalized because I think my heart is giving out and I can’t breathe and I need someone to help me.”
However, during the interview, the model wanted to specify that she wasn’t complaining about the immense amount of privileges she was born into : “I consider myself one of the luckiest people on the planet to be able to live the life I live,” she said.
But it’s really both a challenge for me, much more than it seems from the outside.
