A new study revealed that three out of four adults sleep better after love making and think taking a sleeping pills had the same or worse effect.
For the study, presented at SLEEP 2023, a joint meeting between the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Society for Dream Research, researchers surveyed 53 adults about their sleep habits, including their sleep quality after using sleep medications. sleep or after love making and reaching orgasm.
According to the results, 75% of the participants claimed to have a better quality of sleep after love making before going to bed, while 64% reported that sleeping pills provided the same effect as making love , or even a negative effect.
“There is little scientific data on the impact of love making and orgasm on sleep quality. Although these data are fairly preliminary, it was interesting how often love making was used to aid sleep ,” said Dr. Douglas Kirsch, the study’s lead author and medical director of sleep medicine at Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Because there is not much research exploring the association between gender and sleep quality, the doctor added that it should be investigated whether the impact of the se**al act on sleep is due to the physiological process related to orgasm or whether the Meaningful connections between non-s*x partners could have the same effect at bedtime. While 89% of the study participants were between the ages of 25 and 49,53% were female.
“These preliminary data start a conversation about a largely unexplored topic: s*x and insomnia” ,” said study co-author Dr. Seema Khosla, medical director of the North Dakota Sleep Center. in Fargo.
The clinicians also acknowledged the importance of further research on the association between se**al activity and sleep, as the survey did not include representation of people who might have negative associations with bedtime love making due to trauma-related with s*x.
