Evil Dead Rise

 

 

Indeed, “Evil Dead” rises. The franchise has been around since the beginning of the 1980s, but its track record has always been good. Therefore, imagine our unsurprised happiness upon learning that this one exceeds that legacy. In contrast to our previous entry, this one largely substitutes a decaying LA apartment complex for the cabin in the woods. But if there was one thing we learned from watching it, it was that “Evil Dead” will always be “Evil Dead” as long as there are people who are possessed, a creepy book, and a lot of blood. “Rise” delivers a nonstop thrill ride that is anything but predictable on none of these fronts. In a nutshell, it’s fun.

However, “Scream VI” is the one exception that actually makes it work, despite the fact that it is frequently used as a trick. Even though Sidney Prescott, the original final girl, is absent from this production for the first time, the young cast that is back really shines here. However, the set pieces really make use of the urban setting, so the thrills and kills remain top-notch. It appears that “Scream” may be reaching its peak in the 2020s, so forget the 1990s.
